A leader's view from the pew

Updated: Sep 18, 2023

Why would anyone want to write and post videos to give you a view from the pew?

Let me count the reasons!

  1. Perspective

  2. Perception

  3. Impact

  4. Connection

  5. Fruitfulness

  6. Transformation

  7. Growth

As pastors, you have a view of the pew. As pastors, you have a view over the pews. At times, maybe even a view in the pew.

But few pastors take enough time to walk in their congregations shoes to have a realistic view from the pew.

I hope to help you here.

While, like you I have been pastor to many over many years. Probably unlike you and most pastors, I took on this responsibility for 30 years as a lay person.

This will not be a blog about the biblical basis for your work as a vocational pastor.

This is not a blog going to be a blog debating the theological nuances about how to approach ministry.

Let's get it clear upfront. The Bible is central to our ministry of making disciples. Indeed, it entirely informs it.

However, it is ministry to PEOPLE.

It's not preaching and teaching the Bible that stressed you out. That's not what stops you from making disciple-makers.

I'll go out on a limb and suggest that it is PEOPLE that get in the way—meeting the needs and demands of people and the programs designed to serve them.

Yes, the Bible is central to ministry. But, it's the means to the end. Ministry is the Bible applied to and in the lives of your PEOPLE, as you make and grow disciples, under God and to his glory.

This blog/vlog will capture my thoughts, feelings, insights, opinions in ways that will hopefully help challenge you, equip you, encourage you and inspire you.

I pray that God will use my unique perspective—as a pastor and layman—to help you engage, challenge, exhort, encourage, inspire all who sit the your pews week after week. So that your members are growing in knowledge and depth of insight, becoming more mature, with a growing heart for the lost, serving your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ with joy, ministering and caring for each other and living all of life delighting in and worshipping God.

I hope you join me each week for a new perspective or insight into the mind and emotions of your people.

May God bless you and the people under your care.
